iOS: Add a Camera

iOS: Add a Camera

Two methods exist to set up your camera using an iOS device. The IZON app will ask you to identify the LED blink pattern on the camera once it is ready to activate, in order to determine which is the preferred method to use: Add a Camera by QR Code, or Add a Camera Manually.

Setting up your IZON Camera

Plug in your IZON camera and wait until the LED blinking pattern is steady on the same pattern for at least 30 seconds (it typically takes 2 minutes to reach this point).

In the "My Cameras" screen, select the Add Camera button or choose Add Camera from the "Account" screen.

After selecting Add Camera, select whether the camera is "new" (new from packaging, has not been previously activated), or if it is "used" (has been activated previously).

Select the blinking pattern that you see on your camera.  Below are the options provided for a "new" camera.

If your new camera's LED blink pattern is either Double Orange-Double Green, or Blinking Orange Only, you will be directed to Add the Camera using a QR Code.

If your new camera's LED blink pattern is Single Orange-Single Green, you will be directed to Add the Camera Manually.

Add a Camera by QR Code

NOTE: This method cannot be used to add a camera that has a blink pattern of Single Orange-Single Green. If your camera's LED blink pattern is not Double Orange-Double Green after 2 minutes of being plugged in, it may be necessary to return your IZON camera to factory settings before continuing. Follow the instructions provided by the app to reset your camera.

Once you have selected your camera's LED blinking pattern, you will be presented with the following screen:

This screen displays the network your iOS device is currently connected to. The configuration process requires your iOS device to be connected to the same network to which you will be adding the camera. Pressing the Manual Setup button will begin the process to add your camera manually.

The IZON camera is compatible with 2.4 GHz networks. If your router is a dual band router, be sure you are connected to the 2.4GHz frequency. If you have multiple Wi-Fi networks where you’re installing IZON, you can press Choose different network for instructions. Choose a network with a strong signal (an 802.11n network is best). Make sure your network is discoverable by IZON, and not hidden or “closed”.

Press Continue to proceed with setting up the camera on the network shown.

Enter your Wi-Fi password and verify to proceed.

Note: This is the password for your Wi-Fi network, not your IZON account. The password may be on a sticker located on your router.

Press Go after entering your Wi-Fi password. The app will display instructions on how to present the QR Code to the camera. Press the Start button after you have read the instructions.

After pressing Start, the app will display a QR Code (square bar code). Position the mobile device screen about 4-10" from the camera's lens until the camera's LED changes to a green blinking pattern. You may need to slightly adjust the distance and angle of the device screen relative to the camera until the LED blinking pattern on the camera changes to a green blink.

(what if my camera won't read the QR Code?)

While the LED is blinking green, the camera is connecting to your Wi-Fi network with the information provided in the QR Code. Once the camera has successfully connected to your Wi-Fi network, the app will complete the activation while displaying a checklist of actions that are being performed:

Once the camera has been added successfully, you will see the following screen:

Your IZON camera has been successfully configured for your network and added to your Stem account. If a newer version of firmware is available for your camera, the camera will auto-update, during which time you'll want to leave the camera powered and connected to the network until the process completes (about 15 minutes).

Once the camera is fully accessible, you can finish setting up your IZON camera.

Add a Camera Manually

Depending on what you selected for your camera's LED blink pattern, you may be taken directly to the Manual setup process, or you may select Manual Setup from the network selection screen:

Follow the instructions on-screen, and connect your device to the STEM Wi-Fi or device network in your iOS Settings app, under Wi-Fi. Press the HOW-TO button for a short video demonstration.

After connecting to the STEM network, return to the IZON app. Press Continue in the upper right corner to begin configuring your IZON camera.

You will see the following screen while the app attempts to communicate with your camera:

The app will retrieve a list of available networks from your IZON camera:

The IZON camera is compatible with 2.4Ghz networks. If you have multiple Wi-Fi networks where you’re installing IZON, you can choose a network with a strong signal (an 802.11n network is best).

If you cannot see your network in this list, press the Refresh button in the upper right corner. Make sure your network is 2.4GHz and discoverable by IZON, and not hidden or “closed”. Ensure you are located within range of your router. If you still cannot see your network in the list, you may attempt to manually enter your network information by using the Other Network option.

Once you have selected the network you would like to use with your IZON camera, you will be prompted to enter and verify the password for your Wi-Fi network:

Note: This is the password for your Wi-Fi network, not your IZON account. The password may be on a sticker located on your router.

Press Continue after entering your Wi-Fi password to begin connecting your camera to the desired network:

Connecting to your network may take several minutes, during which time it is important for your iOS device to remain near the IZON camera. Once the IZON camera has connected to the Wi-Fi network, the following screen will prompt you to connect your iOS device back to the Wi-Fi network you are adding the IZON camera to:

Use your iOS Settings app again, under Wi-Fi, to connect your iOS device to your Wi-Fi network. After you have connected your iOS device to the correct Wi-Fi network, return to the IZON app. Press Continue in the upper right corner:

Once the camera has successfully connected to your Wi-Fi network, the app will complete the activation while displaying a checklist of actions that are being performed:

Once the camera has been added successfully, you will see the following screen:

If a newer version of firmware is available for your camera, the camera will auto-update, during which time you'll want to leave the camera powered and connected to the network until the process completes (about 15 minutes).

Once the camera is fully accessible, you can finish setting up your IZON camera.
