Android: Add a Camera

Android: Add a Camera

There are two methods to setup a compatible camera using an Android device: Add a Camera by Wireless Communication and Add a Camera Using a QR Code.

The IZON app will automatically attempt to add your camera by the wireless communication method first. If the IZON app cannot find a camera to setup wirelessly, the app will default to the QR Code method.

Setting up your IZON Camera

Plug in your IZON camera and wait until the LED blinking pattern is steady on Orange-Orange-Green-Green for at least 30 seconds (it typically takes 2 mins to reach this point).

If your camera is not blinking orange-orange-green-green after 2 minutes of being powered, please reset your camera. If the LED blink pattern settles on a pattern other than orange-orange-green-green again after 2 minutes of being powered, please see firmware compatibility for information on activating and upgrading your camera.

In the “My Cameras” screen, select the Add Camera button or choose Add Camera from the "Account" screen.

After pressing Add Camera from the Account screen or My Cameras screen, the IZON app will search for any camera(s) that can be wirelessly configured to your network.

NOTE: Only one camera may be setup at a time. If you have multiple cameras to add, wait until you have completed a camera setup before plugging in another camera.

If the IZON app does not find a camera to add wirelessly, the app will default to adding a camera by QR Code.

Once a camera has been located and is ready to connect to your network, you will be presented with the following screen:

(what if it's not finding my camera?)

The IZON camera is compatible with 2.4 GHz networks. If you have multiple Wi-Fi networks where you’re installing IZON, you can use the dropdown box to select the Wi-Fi network you would like to use. Choose a network with a strong signal (an 802.11n network is best). Make sure your network is discoverable by IZON, and not hidden or “closed”.

Enter your Wi-Fi password.

Note: This is the password for your Wi-Fi network, not your IZON account. The password may be on a sticker located on your router.

Press Continue after entering your Wi-Fi password to begin connecting your camera to the desired network. A checklist of actions will be shown on two subsequent screens. Connecting to your network may take several minutes, during which time it is important for your Android device to remain near the camera.

Once the camera has added successfully, you will see the following screen:

If a newer version of firmware is available for your camera, the camera will auto-update, during which time you'll want to leave the camera powered and connected to the network until the process completes (about 15 minutes).

Once the camera is fully accessible, you can finish setting up your IZON camera.

Adding a Camera Using a QR Code

When the IZON app cannot find a camera to add wirelessly, you will receive the following prompt. Select Yes if the LED is orange-orange-green-green.

If your camera is not blinking orange-orange-green-green after 2 minutes of being powered, please reset your camera. If the LED blink pattern settles on a pattern other than orange-orange-green-green after 2 minutes of being powered, please see firmware compatibility for information on activating and upgrading your camera.

Select the Wi-Fi network you would like to add your camera to.

Press Continue after entering your Wi-Fi password. The app will display instructions on how to present the QR Code to the camera. Press Next in the upper right corner after you have read the instructions.

After pressing Next, the app will display a QR Code (square bar code). Position the mobile device screen about 4-10" from the camera's lens until the camera's LED changes to a green blinking pattern. You may need to slightly adjust the distance and angle of the device screen relative to the camera until the LED blinking pattern on the camera changes to a green blink.

(what if my camera won't read the QR Code?)

While the LED is blinking green, the camera is connecting to your Wi-Fi network with the information provided in the QR Code. Once the camera has successfully connected to your Wi-Fi network, the app will complete the final steps, displaying a checklist of actions.
